Strategic Forum Meetings

The Strategic Forum

In order to increase the efficiency by which departments in state government operate the Governor's Office will be facilitating recurring strategic forums. These meetings will be overseen by the Governor, and will be based on issues surrounding education, economic development, quality of life, and governance. The strategic objectives for each area will be determined by the Cabinet.

The elements of the state strategic plan will be refined in these meetings. For example, the "quality of life" meeting will focus on strategies related to improving air quality, affordable housing, etc.

Sample Agenda

Departments will be invited to participate in teams based on their mission and potential impact on the strategic outcome. A sample forum agenda follows:

  • Welcome (5min) : The Governor welcomes participants.
  • Issue Overview (15min) : GOPB presents a summary of the issues related to the topic, (GOPB Management Staff will work with Departments to develop this information prior to the meeting). This presentation might include analytical measures that illustrate the state's impact on the desired outcome.
  • Issue Discussion (35min) : Everyone at the table then identifies and agrees upon the desired outcome through a strategic conversation. They have an opportunity to discuss ways to realign strategy, engage stakeholders, solve problems, etc. GOPB Management Staff records the decisions made.
  • Conclusion (5min) : Staff then reviews the decisions made, and the meeting is adjourned.

Logistics and Communication

Materials for the meeting will be compiled by GOPB Management Staff prior to the meeting (in consultation with departments and stakeholders). Materials will be presented in a consistent format in order to be useful to future strategic and enterprise planning efforts.

All meetings will be closed to the media. The findings of the forum will be presented in the State Strategic Plan.
